Toshiba unveils Satellite U840W ultrabook

Toshiba Gulf FZE has announced the expansion of its ultrabook product line with the introduction of the Satellite U840W, an affordably priced everyday unit that offers the world’s first 21:9 cinematic display.
“The ability to wake up in a flash, offer a more secure computing experience and deliver great battery life, are just some of the key attributes Toshiba has built into its new Satellite U840W,” says Linsay Narayanan, product specialist at Toshiba South Africa.
“The innovative and stylish design of the unit coupled with third generation Intel Core processors delivers a great choice for users looking for a compelling ultrabook.”
The entertainment-optimised Satellite U840W offers premium features and design in an ultra-slim form factor. Designed with movie enthusiasts and productivity power users in mind, the unit is the first ultrabook of its kind to feature a 14,4-inch diagonal ultrawide-HD TruBrite display with a cinematic 21:9 aspect ratio.
This display is ideally suited for movie buffs looking to enjoy movies in their original format – without the black bars commonly seen on most laptop displays.
The distinctive display is also ideal for multi-tasking, providing more space for better split-screen viewing of Office apps, streaming video, social networking, browsing and instant messaging. To make it easy for consumers to utilise the extra display space, the new Toshiba Split Screen Utility offers pre-configured and custom viewpoint grids, supporting multiple windows on the display.
The Satellite U840W is thin and light, yet sturdy and elegant. Precisely constructed of machined aluminum with luxurious soft-touch trim, the Satellite U840W delivers sophisticated styling, while a lightweight design and profile of less than 21mm make it comfortable to carry. An LED backlit raised tile keyboard and ClickPad on the inside round off the refined design.
It may only be 20,8mm thick, but the Satellite U845W’s battery lasts up to nine hours, making it a multimedia machine that’s truly mobile. At just 1,57kg, it is lightweight enough to accompany users wherever they go, with enough battery life to keep users free from a mains socket for a whole working day.
Equipped with harman/kardon stereo speakers and SRS Premium Sound 3D, the Satellite U840W complements the cinematic screen experience with rich audio quality.
The Satellite U840W is available from Mustek at the end of October at a recommended retail price of R8 999.00, including VAT.
